The Day Of Kevin Learned

I start my day by slowly getting my self out of bed around 8:30am after my alarm goes off a good five minutes before. I always hate the start of the day because I struggle to get my self out of bed and it’s always a fight to pull my self out from under the covers and start my day. Once I do finally get out of bed I like to start brewing a pot of coffee and take a sip out of the sink. I then go to the bathroom and put on some music and take a shower. I enjoy lessening to reggae in the morning because I find it relaxing and a nice way to start the day. All the music I have are in Mp3 file format witch was “developed in 1992, enables digital recordings to be compressed into smaller more manageable files.”(Media&Culture)

After my shower I brush my teeth then I put on some jeans and a shirt and get a cup of coffee. If it’s a day I woke up early and have time before my classes ill put on the TV sit down on my reclining chair and watch some news witch is “defined as the process of gathering information and making narrative reports edited by individuals for news organization”(Media& Culture), or the weather channel and make something to eat normally a bagel with cream cheese. I like watching these stations in the morning because I feel like they lets me start my day knowing what’s going on in the world and this makes me feel smarter and more informed. I only spend about 20 min to a half hour watching TV in the morning.

I go from watching TV to trying to get some home work or studying done before I go to my first class. To do my homework Ill move out of the living room to my desk in my bedroom to try to avoid any distractions from people of the TV But having a computer with me to “help me with my home work” makes it hard to not get distracted because I can always check my emails or Face book, which is the biggest social networking site with a “total market value at $15 billion”. (Media & culture) Surfing the web and looking at my emails and Face book is a lot more fun then doing my homework and I end up finding my self looking at these more then I am doing my work. This can get back because it seems to almost become addicting.

To get to class I have to take a buss from Quarry hill to campus it takes about ten min and comes every 45 min. I do not like taking the buss so I use my Black Berry to listen to music and surf the web on the way to school. I really like the Black Berry because it combines a phone and the Internet and an mp3 player into one device making it really convenient and take up less room. In one buss ride I can listen to about four songs and check my emails and browse a few websites. This makes the ride a lot more enjoyable as well as seems a lot shorter.

When I finely get to school I get off the buss and walk to the café to get some food because the bus always get their at least 20 min before class starts. I almost always keep my head phones on when getting off the bus and walking to the café to let my limbic brain have more time to enjoy some tunes. Once I get to the café I pick out some food to eat and get a drink. I then look around to see if there is any one around that I know and would want to sit with. Most of the time I see one of my friends and sit with them and eat my food. Most of the time we will talk about skiing or music like rock and roll that “hit in the mid 1950s” (Media&Culture) two of my favorite things.

I leave the café to go to class. The walk to class is never more then five minutes. Today it is a good five minutes walk to get to my media and society class. On the walk their I have to go past the book store and then across the court yard and in to Ireland up two flights of stairs and straight down the hall. The class started at 1230 and I got their a few min early. In class we learn about many different parts of media like cable, Internet, book and how to use power tools to look deeper at media.

After Media and Society I have to go to rhetoric witch is a quick four min walk cross the courtyard and in to freeman hall. In rhetoric I read a lot of story and answer questions about the story’s I read I do not really enjoy reading so I find this class kind of boring and hard. As well as reading story we also have to write a good amount of papers that are equally not as fun as reading short story’s. We also watch a few movies one of them was Smoke Signals I found this movie interesting and fun to watch.

Rhetoric is my last class of the day and after my last class I always go to the gym and work out for en hour. I like working out because it is a nice way to relive the stress of a day of classes. When working out I like to listen to music I feel it helps me because it keep my mind of what I am doing and I don’t feel as tired. I mostly just lift weights and do not do much running or cardio exercise. After working out I go back to the café and get some food before I take the buss back to my apartment at Quarry.

The buss ride back is almost always a lot worst then the one they’re because of traffic and it some times can take almost double the time. So I put the headphones and put on some Pandora radio witch my smart phone has on it. I also check some emails “invented in 1971 by computer engineer Ray Tomlinson” (Media&Culture). Once the buss arrives at Quarry I walk up to the third floor and go to my room take a shower.

After a nice warm shower I like to lie down and watch TV and relax for a little while. Most of the time I watch the history channel or discovery. Both these channels have show that I can watch and I always find them interesting even if I have already seen. I watch TV and pig out on food for a few hours before I start to think about doing any kind of schoolwork. Once I feel I am ready to do some homework I sit down and crank out a few hours of work. After working I eat some dinner and watch a little more TV before brushing my teeth and going to bed.

Newschoolers

Newschoolers is an amazing wed site for any skier. It is kinda like a Facebook that is just for skiers. It has lots of forums about anything that has to do with skiing as well as many other sports skiers like to do during the off season like biking, climbing, skating, ect. as well as forums it lets you upload pictures and videos.

Newschoolers is also great because they give you snow and park up dates for almost every ski mountain you can think of. They also lets you know about any new skiing events coming up like ski movies, rail jams.

One thing I noticed was their is a lot of advertisement on the website that used the big lie technique. They would say a product will make you way better and things like this.

pandora vs grooveshark

Pandora and Grooveshark are two of my favorite websites. They both are radio web sites that let you listen to music for free. The web sites let you choose the music you want to listen to and it will also pick music that it thinks you will like. Both web sites can be a kind of technological shift (analog to digital) because it is taking music that would normal be on the radio or Cd's and putting it on a website. It is also a person shift, both websites takes radio, witch normally no one has control of and turns it into personal radio when every one can pick what music they want as well as what music they do not like. Their are some big differences between these web sites.

Pandora: Pandora lets you pick from a song name, artist, album or composer. Once you pick what you would like to listen to pandora picks music that matches what you wanted. You do not always get the song or the artist you picked though. and another down fall is you can only skip six songs in a hour. Pandora also lets you pick if you like or dislike the songs. Their are also commercials every once and a while on pandora.

Grooveshark
: Grooveshark can do all the same things as pandora plus much more. With Grooveshark you can make playlist pick what song you want to listen to. As well as stop songs rewind them and play them over again.

THESIS:

·
In this issue of Powder magazine the thesis is that they have 114 ways to stay warm and dry, because it is the 2011 apparel guide

FIVE FACTS:

TRIUNE BRAIN:

· Powder magazine has a lot of articles that require reading making you use your neocoretex, the magazine also has a lot of pictures and advertising that use the limbic brain,

8 TRENDS:

· Powder magazine has the normal print magazine format but it also has a online magazine, blogs, video, pictures and a store at www.Powdermag.com because of this it makes them part of convergent media format.

7 PRINCIPLES:

· This issue of powder magazine is pretty much just trying to sell the reader skiing gear and or trying to get them to go skiing at different mountains. I think this is because it is the apparel guide for 2011. It has add or a article about how amazing a ski is on almost every other page.

29 PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES:

· This magazine had a lot of persuasive techniques. It had Symbols in many of the pictures and adds. Also they use Big Lie when in one of the adds it says that a shirt is going to give you confidents when it matters. There is also Humor, in one of the adds the name of a ski movie is cheap ski movies and it talks about how it the worst ski movie ever.

1) After studying 21st century Media for the last 8 weeks I have learned to Bog/ twitter and also look at media on a deeper meaning.
2) I have learned that I am better at reading a text book and getting the important facts out of it. I think this way we have to blog about each chapter has helped me with finding facts.
3) If I was to take the class again I would have put more work into my personal blog. I think this is the only things so far that I need to put a little more work into.
4) One thing I would have liked you to do differently would be to explain how to do the personal blogs better. I felt like I was not completely clear on how you wanted them done.
5) I find the power tools and course blog vary helpful the course blog helps me with staying on track because I can always look at it and see what is going on in class I feel the personal blog did not teach me as much but it was a lot more fun.
